Calm to slightly rippled water gives bass a clear shot at your lure and helps you see strikes coming, though a little wind can actually trigger more aggressive bites by breaking up the surface. Warmer water, generally above 55-60°F, gets bass more willing to chase and blow up on topwater rather than a slow presentation.
