Squarebills shine in the spring and fall when bass are shallow and aggressive, especially around rocky banks, laydowns, and stump fields where the bill can bounce off cover. They also produce well in warmer months around grass lines and dock pilings during low-light hours or overcast days. The wide wobble and buoyant design make them forgiving in cover-heavy areas where other lures would hang up.

Stained to slightly murky water is ideal since the tight wobble and vibration help bass locate the bait when visibility is limited. Overcast skies, light wind chop, and water temperatures between 55 and 75 degrees typically trigger the best reaction bites. Cold, gin-clear conditions tend to make bass more wary of the bait's aggressive action, so downsizing or slowing your retrieve helps in those situations.
