A 3/8 oz spinnerbait is the most versatile starting point for depths from 2 to 8 feet and covers most bass fishing situations. Go up to 1/2 or 3/4 oz when fishing deeper water, heavy wind, or when you want a faster fall through cover, and drop to 1/4 oz for shallow, calm conditions or finesse presentations around wary fish.
